Tankas
My children, children,
there’s applesauce
everywhere
but it’s not for you.
It is strange to help
someone
grow while helping
someone die.
Each time I write hope,
the letters fray and
scatter.
The hopeful poets
never seem to have my
dreams,
never seem to have
children.
Tankas
Filhos, meus filhos
há tanto puré de maçã
em todo o lado
mas não é para vocês.
É estranho ajudar
alguém
A crescer enquanto se ajuda
alguém a morrer.
Cada vez que escrevo
esperança,
as letras engalfinham-se
e desmembram-se.
Os esperançosos poetas
nunca parecem ter meus
sonhos,
nunca parecem ter
filhos.
